The Quest for the Perfect Purple Lipstick

Don’t tell me you haven’t searched high and low for the perfect lipstick shade too. You haven’t? Okay I might be the weird one. But then again, due to a difference in undertones and colouring and such, different lipsticks look different of different people (lol I couldn’t think of anything else to say. I’m sorry)

From now, I present my quests for the perfect shades, starting with purples.

I love purple. Purple lips even more. I see someone rocking a purple pout and I have to have it. But then I try it and it’s too light/too glossy/just not my bag.

Let me introduce you to my small collection of purple lipsticks–

• LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Seduce (which I have reviewed here)
• Mac Heroine
• Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Shameless (reviewed here)
• LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Daring (reviewed here)
• Black Radiance Plum Orchid (review here)

Top to bottom: seduce, Heroine shameless, daring, plum orchid

I realised that Black Radiance plum orchid and Revlon ColorBurst shameless look quite alike

Top plum orchid
Bottom shameless

The only noticeably difference to me is that shameless has more blue undertones.

I still haven’t found my perfect purple yet. Or maybe I have and I haven’t realized it. But of this lot, my favourites have to be definitely shameless and plum orchid because they’re dark and super long lasting and pack major kapow which is exactly what I look out for in a lipstick.

I realised now that I’ve been actively blogging and reading other blogs that my Mac Heroine might not be exactly authentic but I like it nonetheless.

What’s your favourite purple lipstick? Got any recommendations?

Say adiós to chapped lips with Jordana’s Twist and Shine Moisturising Balm Stain

“No I have too many lipsticks, so I don’t want any more” said no girl ever, amirite? 😂
So today I’m coming at you with a review of one product I’m excited about. I’m pretty late to the party on these but I still hopped onto the bandwagon so hey, better late than never right? Let’s dive right in!

Twist and shine moisturising balm stain is Jordana’s version of the chubby lip pencils that are all the rage lately.  The balm stain comes in 10 colours but I picked up Cranberry Crush because of my love for all things berry.

What Jordana claims: Moisturizing Balm Infused with a Light-Weight Stain
• Applies with a Glossy Finish then Transforms into the Perfect Flush of Color
• Long-Lasting
• Retractable, No Sharpening Required

I agree with all these claims except the long-lasting bit (read on to find out why)

Application is a dream. It glides on super soft and easy and feels buttery soft on your lips. You don’t have to worry about messing up the application, the tip of the pencil makes application precise; you don’t even need to worry about not having a mirror.

The balm is housed in a plastic colour-coded tube that I find very attractive, which the shade written on the tube. I tried this on when I had badly chapped lips (mehn this harmattan is so unforgiving!) just to see if it lives up to its claims. I applied it before bed and when I woke up, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was still some of the balm left on my lips and my lips were soft with not a chap in sight. Woohoo! The balm stain is very forgiving. It does not settle into lines or feather, but there’s a little bleeding because of the texture. There’s a slight smell but none so overpowering, but no discernible taste.

They aren’t as pigmented as a regular lipstick so don’t expect this to stick around for too long– I get at most 3 hours of wear but there’s a beautiful berry stain left behind when the shine disappears. I should add that there is no noticeable shimmer, which I’m glad about cos I don’t know how I would feel about walking about with my lips glistening like a diamond 😂

The balm stain contains 0.095/2.7g of product, which is a lot more than the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable balm and the Mac Patentpolish Lip Pencil.

I apologize not for not having a hand swatch. My camera could not properly capture the gorgeousness that is cranberry crush.

I’m definitely impressed with this, and I would definitely recommend it. In fact, I’m thinking of getting Rock and Rouge too! I love the retractable feature, meaning there’s no waste, just twist it up when the tip becomes blunt.

I rate this 5 yays! Deserves even more but I have to hold my excitement in.

Wearing Cranberry Crush. I love how it compliments my very subtle makeup and is pigmented enough to hold it’s own.

Pros:
• Moisturising
• Retractable
• Lightweight
• Flattering on all skin tones
• Not sticky or tacky
• Does not feather or settle into lines
I could go on and on

Cons:
Absolutely nothing

Tried it? Loved it? Hated it? Share!

See y’all soon
