Three Lip Combos I’ve Been Loving (ft ColourPop LAX)

Oh LAX. Where have you been all my life? Sigh. This lipstick is perfection in a tube. Seriously. I wear it practically everyday, and I haven’t touched most of my other lipsticks that I used to love since I got this. See how banged up my tube is? That’s because it’s been handled and thrown into my bag countless of times cos that’s how much I love it

First up is of course LAX and another ColourPop lipstick, More Better. This combo, omg!!! It’s so beautiful 😍

This beautiful colour. Perfect for adding a bit of glam to any outfit.

Next combo is LAX and Jordana Modern Matte in Style. For this, I start by applying Style to my whole lip, then line my lips with LAX  after. Then I blend once again with my finger and viola! You end up with this. The last combo is features LAX and Black Radiance lipstick in Pink Dahlia.Pink Dahlia is otherwise very loud and I would not necessarily wear it on its own. But combining it with LAX makes it a very wearable pink for women of colour. I start by lining my lips with LAX, then I apply Pink Dahlia to the center of my lips.I love how versatile LAX is, and this is just three of the many combos it can be used to create.

Review: Jordana Eye Makeup Remover

Wow my blog has got absolutely no love in so long! There’s just been a lot going on, which I will talk about later. Today I have another review coming your way: the Jordana Eye Makeup Remover

This is a dual-phase liquid that is activated when shaken.

Description: (taken from the bottle)

•  Silicon-free
•  Oil-free
•  Fragrance-free
•  Gently and effectively removes waterproof mascara and eye makeup without any tugging or pulling
•  Leaves no oily residue

How to use: Shake well. Apply with cotton ball on closed eyelids. Rinse well with cold water

How cool are these dual-phase liquids? It’s always so amazing to see them never mix, until they are shaken. But hey, I’m detracting from the review. Back to it.

I’ve been using this for a little while now, since I posted my Teeny Tiny Haul post and I can now give unbiased review.

The eye makeup remover is housed in a slightly opaque bottle with a grey cover.

I don’t use a lot of waterproof eye makeup, except for maybe my LA Girl gel eyeliner, and hardly any mascara (I know, shocking right?), but this actually lived up to its claims to remove eye makeup without pulling or tugging. I just poured a little onto a cotton ball and held it to my eye, and in a few short minutes, my eyes were clear! Now I know it claims to be oil free, but it left a filmy residue on me eyes, which me no likey 🙍

Another thing I don’t like about this: the wide neck. Really Jordana, really?! This is a potential hazard, and the probability of tipping this onto your carpet/floor/wherever is very high if you’re not extra cautious. Another thing I use this for is to remove liquid lipsticks. It makes removing my ColourPop liquid lipsticks a breeze. Just moisten a cotton ball with the eye makeup remover, hold it to my lips and voila! Fuss free and easy. However I have to wipe with a dry tissue to take away that filmy residue I mentioned.

But all in all, it’s a really good eye makeup remover for the price. I got this for 10 cedis. Yup, you read right. It is dirt cheap and it works so hey I’m not complaining. You get 4 FL OZ/118mL of product which should last you a really long time.

Have you tried any eye makeup removers? Share your experience with me.

Teeny Tiny Haul

One reason why I never like to walk through town is cos everything I see catches my eye. And if it catches my eye I want to buy it. And as someone who’s unemployed, that’s very bad for my already limited finances. But these caught my eye and I had to have them. Sigh

• Jordana Eye Makeup Remover
• Milani EasyLiner Retractable Lipliner in Sugar Plum
• Jordana Classic Lipliner in Merlot
• Purederm Acne Wash Cleansing Wipes

I’m most especially looking forward to trying out the eye makeup remover and the acne wipes. It makes a lot of big claims and I’m looking forward to finding out if it lives up to what it says.

I’ll do separate reviews on these so look out for them coming soon!

The Quest for the Perfect Berry Lipstick

Probably the post I am most excited about. I love me a berry lip. I know I say this about every lip colour but really, berries are my favourites without a doubt. That’s why I have worn down my poor Milani Sangria. It probably hides when I’m looking for lipstick to wear because it’s definitely one abused lipstick.

My berry collection is pretty small though…

Left to right:
• Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Sangria (check out review here)
• Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturising Balm in Cranberry Crush (which i have reviewed here)
• Milani Color Statement Lipstick in matte Flirty

It took me a bit of thought to include Flirty in this line up. See for yourself in the swatches

Top to bottom: sangria, cranberry crush, flirty

Flirty (review of this coming soon) swatches differently from the way it applies. It looks more berry but on my lips, it looks like a berry toned red. So I almost included it in the red lipstick post. I also noticed that Flirty and Eldorado Red looked similar when swatched

Top to bottom: matte flirty, eldorado red, sangria

Notice how similar the two look? But they look miles apart when worn so they are definitely NOT dupes of each other. Eldorado Red has more brick undertones while Matte Flirty has more berry undertones.

Like before, I should mention that cranberry crush isn’t exactly a lipstick, but it’s a tentative way to venture into wearing berry lipsticks.

What is your favourite berry lipstick? Any recommendations?

The Quest for the Perfect Red Lipstick

I’m continuing with my posts on the search for the perfect lipstick shades. Today it’s the turn of the reds. Meet the contestants…

Left to right:
• L’Oreal Colour Riche in Liya’s Red (reviewed here)
• Milani HD Advanced Lip Colour in Lovely Rouge (review here)
• Black Radiance Eldorado Red (reviewed here)
• Mary Kay Really Red
• Jordana Modern Matte lipstick in Style
• Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturising Balm in Rock n Rouge

I haven’t reviewed the Mary Kay, Jordana Modern Matte and Rock n Rouge yet but I’ll do so pretty soon.

On to the swatches:

Top to bottom: Liya’s red, lovely rouge, eldorado red, really red, style and rock n rouge.

For a lipstick called “Really Red”, Mary Kay is straight up orange. Really Mary Kay, does that look anything like red to you?!? I better save this rant for the actual review.

Liya’s Red is supposed to have pinky undertones but that looks more orange than pink to me. It’s no wonder it gets no love from me. If you don’t already know, it’s because I am not a fan of orange – reds.

Technically Rock n Rouge and Lovely Rouge are not lipsticks, but I included it here so folks that are interested in trying a red lip but are hesitant to go all out bold can check those out instead.

It’s pretty hard to find a red lipstick that is just what it’s supposed to be — red. Not orange red, pinky red, just straight up red. I think I probably found that in Eldorado red. It’s an ideal, black girl – friendly red lipstick.

What’s your favourite red lipstick? Any recommendations?
