Milani Lip Products, Review and Test

I love Milani. It is one of my favourite drugstore brands and they make amazing lip products. I’ve been hoping to try their take of the liquid lipstick trend, and finally I got the chance to, along with their Brilliant Shine Lip gloss They are packaged incredibly similarly, and you’d have to look at the actual tube or the bottom of it to be able to tell if it’s the Amore Matte lip creme or the Brilliant Shine lip gloss. I got 4 shades of the lip cremes and 3 of the lip glosses Milani describes the Amore Matte Lip Cremes as Non-sticky, smooth and ready for all night wear (up to 16 hours!) our Amore Matte Lip Crème is the ultimate transfer resistant kiss-me-matte

They also describe the lip glosses as:

Silky instead of sticky, its dawn to dusk staying power is thanks to a sponge – tip applicator that lets you precision – paint like a pro.

I got the lip cremes in the shades l – r Obsession described as a true  plum Covet; vampy brown                           Gorgeous a raspberry wine and                   Fascination; a royal purple I also picked up the Brilliant Shine Lip glosses in the shades l – r                               Black Cherry;                                           Ravish Raspberry;                                             Berry Tempting

The glosses provide shine with a hint of colour, but the stars of the show are the Amore Matte Lip Creme. Both come in a square tube with a gold cap, different from most liquid lipsticks which are usually more round (cylindrical? LOL help me 😂) I really like the gold accents. It makes the tube look pretty expensive. The name of the shade is embossed onto the tube for the new formulas and printed on a gold label on the old formula. My tube of Fascination is the old formula. However I don’t notice much of the difference between that and the other three, which are of the newer formulation except that Fascination is more liquid-y which Obsession, Covet and Gorgeous are more mousse-y. They both smell strongly like cupcakes, bordering on a strong medicinal smell, which thankfully does not linger. Sometimes I find that I love the smell and sometimes it makes me feel pretty nauseous but I don’t notice much of a smell to the lip glosses.

Covet is definitely not vampy on my darker skin, more like a milk – chocolate brown but it’s a beautiful colour and I love it. It reminds me of LA Girl’s Spicy because they are both brown with no hint of any other colour. Just brown with neutral undertones.

Fascination is pretty light on me. It’s not as purple as I hoped it would be, and I find that it looks pretty unflattering on my darker skin when worn by itself. Add a brown lip liner and it is so beautiful.

Gorgeous is a beautiful beautiful fuchsia (on me). I don’t really like how it looks on it’s own although I could certainly wear it like that if I wanted but paired with Milani’s Dark Coffee lip liner and I was mind blown by the combo. Definitely rock it with a brown lip liner if you’re not a fan of bright lips.

Obsession is the star of the set. It’s a beautiful dark plum, just as described. I don’t need to manipulate this. Just pop it on and go. Gorgeous on the left, Ravish Raspberry on the right.

Both the lip cremes and the glosses come with a flat doe foot applicator. I like that I can cover my lips in one pass without having to double dip. I should mention that it is best not to layer because then it is not very lightweight so it’s best to work with the product that the applicator picks up. One swipe and you’re good to go. I have to go back and layer to get a bit more colour with the glosses though.

It isn’t my favorite lip gloss formula (Coloured Raine is. Y’all know how much I loved Mysterious) because I don’t like how sticky and heavy they tend to feel on my lips, and they’re so sheer that you need to layer and layer if you want more colour, making it even more heavier feeling. In terms of wear time, I get at least 6 hours of wear from the lip cremes without eating or drinking. When I do eat, it fades from the centre of my lips and by the 6 hour mark starts to flake and feel pretty drying. Also like most liquid lipsticks, it fades when you eat anything oily. To reapply, it’s best to take off then apply a fresh layer because if you layer a new layer over the old, especially when you’ve eaten or drank a lot of liquid, it tends to feels pretty uncomfortable and heavy. I learnt that the hard way. The lip glosses are perfect for someone who isn’t into the whole liquid lipstick trend and wants a bit of colour and comfort. They’re not really my bag but I do like them on days where my lips are screaming at me for subjecting them through too much liquid lipstick torture. The colour disappears after a while but the shine sticks around for a while longer. Thankfully it doesn’t leave that white ring in my mouth 😈

The Amore Mattes are not the best liquid lipstick formula I’ve tried (ColourPop still is — for now!) but they are definitely worth trying. I love the wide variety of shades they come in and I’m definitely more open to trying a few more colours. They’re intensely pigmented and smell like cupcakes (sometimes!)

Have you tried these? Let me know your thoughts!

Teeny Tiny Haul

One reason why I never like to walk through town is cos everything I see catches my eye. And if it catches my eye I want to buy it. And as someone who’s unemployed, that’s very bad for my already limited finances. But these caught my eye and I had to have them. Sigh

• Jordana Eye Makeup Remover
• Milani EasyLiner Retractable Lipliner in Sugar Plum
• Jordana Classic Lipliner in Merlot
• Purederm Acne Wash Cleansing Wipes

I’m most especially looking forward to trying out the eye makeup remover and the acne wipes. It makes a lot of big claims and I’m looking forward to finding out if it lives up to what it says.

I’ll do separate reviews on these so look out for them coming soon!

Thanks for reading

The Quest for the Perfect Berry Lipstick

Probably the post I am most excited about. I love me a berry lip. I know I say this about every lip colour but really, berries are my favourites without a doubt. That’s why I have worn down my poor Milani Sangria. It probably hides when I’m looking for lipstick to wear because it’s definitely one abused lipstick.

My berry collection is pretty small though…

image

Left to right:
• Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Sangria (check out review here)
• Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturising Balm in Cranberry Crush (which i have reviewed here)
• Milani Color Statement Lipstick in matte Flirty

It took me a bit of thought to include Flirty in this line up. See for yourself in the swatches

image

Top to bottom: sangria, cranberry crush, flirty

Flirty (review of this coming soon) swatches differently from the way it applies. It looks more berry but on my lips, it looks like a berry toned red. So I almost included it in the red lipstick post. I also noticed that Flirty and Eldorado Red looked similar when swatched

image

Top to bottom: matte flirty, eldorado red, sangria

Notice how similar the two look? But they look miles apart when worn so they are definitely NOT dupes of each other. Eldorado Red has more brick undertones while Matte Flirty has more berry undertones.

Like before, I should mention that cranberry crush isn’t exactly a lipstick, but it’s a tentative way to venture into wearing berry lipsticks.

What is your favourite berry lipstick? Any recommendations?

Love and hugs,

Milani Sangria review! (And one where my hair doesn’t look so bad 😃)

I haven’t been able to do a review in the last two days for a host of reasons, but never mind that because I’m back today with another (cheering lol)

Today I’m doing a review of Milani Color Statement Lipstick in the shade Sangria. I love love love this lipstick ! I had been wanting it forever, and one day I just happened upon it. I think I smiled pretty much the whole day when I did. That’s how ecstatic I was

Okay on to the review…

What Milani says: Bellissimo! You know how some (lesser) lipsticks look one way in the store, and then completely different in your bathroom mirror? Color Statement is the antithesis of that. A super-luxe, grown-up girl lipstick, it delivers true instant colour in a single swipe. Laced with vitamins A and C to hydrate and nourish, this collection is all about options: Corals and Reds, Orchids and Plums, Nudes, and Pinks. Trust us, you’ll want an entire wardrobe.

What I think: I haven’t tried a lot of Milani lipsticks, but in relation to my darling Sangria, this is absolutely true. One swipe delivers absolutely beautiful colour payoff that lasts for an absurdly long amount of time, I’m not even kidding. I get over 6 hours of wear with Sangria (without eating) which leaves behind a pinky stain after a heavy meal.

I actually expected it to be a little darker considering how moody it looked in the tube but it turned out to be a beautiful plum with pinky undertones that is extremely wearable

image

Top: one swipe Milani Sangria
Bottom: two swipes of Milani Sangria
See just how pigmented it is?

I love how it’s not too pink and not too purple. It’s definitely appropriate for daily wear (I wear it to work a lot so yeah) because it’s not too dark and not too in-your-face

image

The lipstick is housed in a gold tube with the exact colour of the lipstick at the bottom of the tube, so you know exactly what you’re buying without having to test which I think is pretty great. The cap shuts tightly with a click, so there’s no need to worry about it coming undone in your purse and staining all your stuff

It’s got a mild watermelon smell which I’m not so keen on since I don’t like watermelons but it’s not overpowering so there’s nothing to worry about. I’ve seen other reviews that say that smell goes away but I find that it doesn’t, with mine. However there is no taste.

Sangria is matte, but not at all drying. I’m used to so many matte lipsticks making my lips look so parched and in desperate need of a pick-me-up but I don’t experience that from Sangria. It’s not hydrating though. That’s one thing I do not agree with Milani about.

And the great thing is that it’s a dupe for Mac Rebel ! So those who have been wanting to get Mac Rebel but cannot afford it, Milani Sangria is for you ! I do not have Rebel to compare it with but you can check it out here

And now, as always, a full face shot of me wearing Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Sangria

Here, I’m wearing 2 swipes of Sangria. No lipliner, just pure Sangria goodness.

Do I recommend Milani Color Statement Lipstick Sangria? Most definitely ! (I was going to say hells yeah again but I stopped myself in time
😃)

Pros: amazing colour payoff
Mind blowing staying power
Wearability
Not at all drying
Highly pigmented
Elegant packaging

Cons: nothing except for the smell that a lot of people may not really like

5 yays to Milani for an amazing product !
