The Quest for the Perfect Purple Lipstick

Don’t tell me you haven’t searched high and low for the perfect lipstick shade too. You haven’t? Okay I might be the weird one. But then again, due to a difference in undertones and colouring and such, different lipsticks look different of different people (lol I couldn’t think of anything else to say. I’m sorry)

From now, I present my quests for the perfect shades, starting with purples.

I love purple. Purple lips even more. I see someone rocking a purple pout and I have to have it. But then I try it and it’s too light/too glossy/just not my bag.

Let me introduce you to my small collection of purple lipsticks–

• LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Seduce (which I have reviewed here)
• Mac Heroine
• Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Shameless (reviewed here)
• LA Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Daring (reviewed here)
• Black Radiance Plum Orchid (review here)

Top to bottom: seduce, Heroine shameless, daring, plum orchid

I realised that Black Radiance plum orchid and Revlon ColorBurst shameless look quite alike

Top plum orchid
Bottom shameless

The only noticeably difference to me is that shameless has more blue undertones.

I still haven’t found my perfect purple yet. Or maybe I have and I haven’t realized it. But of this lot, my favourites have to be definitely shameless and plum orchid because they’re dark and super long lasting and pack major kapow which is exactly what I look out for in a lipstick.

I realised now that I’ve been actively blogging and reading other blogs that my Mac Heroine might not be exactly authentic but I like it nonetheless.

What’s your favourite purple lipstick? Got any recommendations?

Revlon Shameless ColorBurst Matte Balm review

This is one review I’m definitely excited about. It’s a long time coming but I didn’t have a complete set of what I needed, that’s why it’s taken so long. But it’s here now!

This week went by so fast and it was Thursday before I realized I hadn’t blogged this week. My apologies 😩. Let’s go!

I got this on Christmas day 2015 from the westhills mall. I was there with my mum and little brother and I was doing a spot of window shopping when I noticed it and I HAD to have it, and I did !

Product description: Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm offers velvety color with balm-like moisture. Infused with a Triple Butter Complex of Shea, Mango and Coconut Butter. This retractable chubby crayon requires no sharpener.

Shameless is a beautiful dark purple with a matte finish that comes in a corresponding matte purple tube. Even though it’s matte, it’s not in the least drying. It is a velvety matte that is a dream to apply.

There are 9 other colours in the ColorBurst Matte line and ten Laquer balms.

The name of the product is under the tube along with a french name. I don’t know if it’s a direct translation, but Desinvolte sounds mighty sexy to me!

I’ve seen other reviews that say that shameless applies patchy but I experienced none of that. It’s not as dark as I hope it would be but this is most likely due to my natural lip colour.

It can be layered on to darken the colour a bit but then it tends to feel a bit heavy when it’s layered too much so blot then apply another layer to prevent that heaviness.

There’s full opacity in one swipe and it has a cooling sensation that I love so much! It feels so soothing to me. If you’re not a fan of smells, don’t worry, it goes away soon.

It lasts and lasts, and once it sets, it’s almost transfer – proof.

One swipe of shameless. It’s intensely pigmented, as is obvious in the picture.

You get 0.095oz/2.7g of product, which is enough to last a while. Oh and did I mention there’s no sharpening required? Just twist the silver bottom for more product!

I definitely recommend this, and I have my eye on Standout and Sultry.

I’m wearing shameless in this picture (I was supposed to be taking my brother to school but we had a mini photoshoot first ☺)

Unlike in the US, this isn’t so affordable. I got this for 43 cedis (don’t tell my mum how much it costs) at Foschini in the westhills mall. It’s pretty steep but you need to get it now!

Tried this? Loved this? Hated it? Share!
