Milani Lip Products, Review and Test

I love Milani. It is one of my favourite drugstore brands and they make amazing lip products. I’ve been hoping to try their take of the liquid lipstick trend, and finally I got the chance to, along with their Brilliant Shine Lip gloss They are packaged incredibly similarly, and you’d have to look at the actual tube or the bottom of it to be able to tell if it’s the Amore Matte lip creme or the Brilliant Shine lip gloss. I got 4 shades of the lip cremes and 3 of the lip glosses Milani describes the Amore Matte Lip Cremes as Non-sticky, smooth and ready for all night wear (up to 16 hours!) our Amore Matte Lip Crème is the ultimate transfer resistant kiss-me-matte

They also describe the lip glosses as:

Silky instead of sticky, its dawn to dusk staying power is thanks to a sponge – tip applicator that lets you precision – paint like a pro.

I got the lip cremes in the shades l – r Obsession described as a true  plum Covet; vampy brown                           Gorgeous a raspberry wine and                   Fascination; a royal purple I also picked up the Brilliant Shine Lip glosses in the shades l – r                               Black Cherry;                                           Ravish Raspberry;                                             Berry Tempting

The glosses provide shine with a hint of colour, but the stars of the show are the Amore Matte Lip Creme. Both come in a square tube with a gold cap, different from most liquid lipsticks which are usually more round (cylindrical? LOL help me 😂) I really like the gold accents. It makes the tube look pretty expensive. The name of the shade is embossed onto the tube for the new formulas and printed on a gold label on the old formula. My tube of Fascination is the old formula. However I don’t notice much of the difference between that and the other three, which are of the newer formulation except that Fascination is more liquid-y which Obsession, Covet and Gorgeous are more mousse-y. They both smell strongly like cupcakes, bordering on a strong medicinal smell, which thankfully does not linger. Sometimes I find that I love the smell and sometimes it makes me feel pretty nauseous but I don’t notice much of a smell to the lip glosses.

Covet is definitely not vampy on my darker skin, more like a milk – chocolate brown but it’s a beautiful colour and I love it. It reminds me of LA Girl’s Spicy because they are both brown with no hint of any other colour. Just brown with neutral undertones.

Fascination is pretty light on me. It’s not as purple as I hoped it would be, and I find that it looks pretty unflattering on my darker skin when worn by itself. Add a brown lip liner and it is so beautiful.

Gorgeous is a beautiful beautiful fuchsia (on me). I don’t really like how it looks on it’s own although I could certainly wear it like that if I wanted but paired with Milani’s Dark Coffee lip liner and I was mind blown by the combo. Definitely rock it with a brown lip liner if you’re not a fan of bright lips.

Obsession is the star of the set. It’s a beautiful dark plum, just as described. I don’t need to manipulate this. Just pop it on and go. Gorgeous on the left, Ravish Raspberry on the right.

Both the lip cremes and the glosses come with a flat doe foot applicator. I like that I can cover my lips in one pass without having to double dip. I should mention that it is best not to layer because then it is not very lightweight so it’s best to work with the product that the applicator picks up. One swipe and you’re good to go. I have to go back and layer to get a bit more colour with the glosses though.

It isn’t my favorite lip gloss formula (Coloured Raine is. Y’all know how much I loved Mysterious) because I don’t like how sticky and heavy they tend to feel on my lips, and they’re so sheer that you need to layer and layer if you want more colour, making it even more heavier feeling. In terms of wear time, I get at least 6 hours of wear from the lip cremes without eating or drinking. When I do eat, it fades from the centre of my lips and by the 6 hour mark starts to flake and feel pretty drying. Also like most liquid lipsticks, it fades when you eat anything oily. To reapply, it’s best to take off then apply a fresh layer because if you layer a new layer over the old, especially when you’ve eaten or drank a lot of liquid, it tends to feels pretty uncomfortable and heavy. I learnt that the hard way. The lip glosses are perfect for someone who isn’t into the whole liquid lipstick trend and wants a bit of colour and comfort. They’re not really my bag but I do like them on days where my lips are screaming at me for subjecting them through too much liquid lipstick torture. The colour disappears after a while but the shine sticks around for a while longer. Thankfully it doesn’t leave that white ring in my mouth 😈

The Amore Mattes are not the best liquid lipstick formula I’ve tried (ColourPop still is — for now!) but they are definitely worth trying. I love the wide variety of shades they come in and I’m definitely more open to trying a few more colours. They’re intensely pigmented and smell like cupcakes (sometimes!)

Have you tried these? Let me know your thoughts!

xx
