Hi guys, happy new month! So if you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll know that I’m a bit of a foundation fiend (view my entire collection here) I’ve wanted to try the cult favourite Estee Lauder Double Wear for the longest time but finding my shade held me back from picking it up.
Shade Matching Estee Lauder double wear comes in a variety of shades, separated in cool, warm and neutrals, which definitely makes picking your shade pretty easy. But that was where I had a huge problem. For the longest time, Sandalwood 6W1 was the darkest warm shade, and it’s not even that dark at all. Several times I was tempted to pick up a shade from the cool section because I’d seen a lot of people about my colouring use Rich Cocoa 6C1, but I always held back because I wasn’t about to spend a lot of money on a shade based off of guesswork that wouldn’t match me.
Then they went ahead and released a darker shade after Sandalwood, Deep Spice 7W1. I was going to pick that up then I realised it would be too dark for me. Then I saw they’d released newer shades and a friend recommended that I pick up Nutmeg 6W2 which is a shade between Sandalwood and Deep Spice. I was definitely glad to find a middle ground.
These are the claims the brand makes about the product: The same long – wear makeup you love, now proven to last even longer. Looks flawless and natural. Feels lightweight and so comfortable, you won’t believe it’s super long wear. Won’t change colour, smudge or come off on clothes. Lasts through heat and humidity.
Packaging The packaging is super cute. I really like the glass bottle and the beautiful gold accents. The bottle is small but has a weighted feel to it.
My Thoughts Now on to my thoughts. The shade range is absolutely amazing, and like I mentioned, I picked this up in the shade Nutmeg 6W2 which is the second to darkest in the warm category. The brand used to boast of 15 hour wear but now they boast of 24 hour wear and this foundation definitely lives up to those claims. I haven’t worn it for that long; the longest I’ve worn it is about 12 hours and it stayed flawless throughout.
It doesn’t smudge or transfer so go ahead and hug bae while he’s wearing his white shirt. The white shirt ain’t got shxt on Estee Lauder Double Wear because once it sets, it SETS and it’s not going anywhere. It is of a thicker consistency but applies easily. I like to apply it with my Real Techniques expert face brush then go over it with my beauty blender to smooth it all out. It plays well with my current under eye concealers and I absolutely love the finish of it. It does transfer a little when I get oily but it’s so minimal that it’s not even a big deal.
It has hard core oil control. This is the only foundation that has me looking matte for 8+ hours before I see a little bit of shine peeking through. It is a full coverage foundation but not cakey at all, just try not to go overboard with the powder else you’re on your way to cake face city.
The biggest pet peeve for me and the millions of other people that use and love this foundation is the lack of a pump. For such a premium – looking foundation and for the price, it would have been nice if they threw in a pump but I’m careful to only pour out the tiniest bit because a little goes a long way.
Now let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the shade. The foundation is supposed to be warm shade but it gives off cool vibes to me
I am warm toned but I can make some orangey and red foundations work for me. I compared it to the coolest foundation I’ve ever used (which you should know if you’ve been kicking it with me for a while) is the Becca Ever Matte Shine Proof foundation
The Becca definitely leans cooler than the Estee Lauder. When I wear this foundation, I look casket sharp. The colour match is pretty accurate but lacks the warm yellow tones that I like in a foundation.
I took this picture with flash so you could tell the difference between the three foundations and you can see that the Makeup Forever Ultra HD which I reviewed recently is much warmer than the other two shades and it’s a much better match for me and the Becca Ever Matte is the coolest of the three. Sometimes to offset the coolness, I mix it with the Makeup Forever Ultra HD but the cool tones are so strong that my foundation just looks off.
I really like the finish and the oil control properties of the foundation but I definitely do not like the shade. However I’m definitely willing to give it another shot because I am so impressed by the foundation. I don’t know what I’m going to do with this one just yet but I’ll figure something out.
If you haven’t tried the Estee Lauder double wear, get you some sis, because this foundation is littttttt 🔥🔥🔥. And best of all it has 24 shelf life so you know this is going to last you a pretty long time.
Have you tried this foundation? Let me know your thoughts on it!
