Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Makeup Review, Thoughts| Shade Fail

Hi guys, happy new month! So if you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll know that I’m a bit of a foundation fiend (view my entire collection here) I’ve wanted to try the cult favourite Estee Lauder Double Wear for the longest time but finding my shade held me back from picking it up.

Shade Matching                                            Estee Lauder double wear comes in a variety of shades, separated in cool, warm and neutrals, which definitely makes picking your shade pretty easy. But that was where I had a huge problem. For the longest time, Sandalwood 6W1 was the darkest warm shade, and it’s not even that dark at all. Several times I was tempted to pick up a shade from the cool section because I’d seen a lot of people about my colouring use Rich Cocoa 6C1, but I always held back because I wasn’t about to spend a lot of money on a shade based off of guesswork that wouldn’t match me.

Then they went ahead and released a darker shade after Sandalwood, Deep Spice 7W1. I was going to pick that up then I realised it would be too dark for me. Then I saw they’d released newer shades and a friend recommended that I pick up Nutmeg 6W2 which is a shade between Sandalwood and Deep Spice. I was definitely glad to find a middle ground.

These are the claims the brand makes about the product: The same long – wear makeup you love, now proven to last even longer. Looks flawless and natural. Feels lightweight and so comfortable, you won’t believe it’s super long wear. Won’t change colour, smudge or come off on clothes. Lasts through heat and humidity.

Packaging                                                         The packaging is super cute. I really like the glass bottle and the beautiful gold accents. The bottle is small but has a weighted feel to it.

My Thoughts                                                     Now on to my thoughts. The shade range is absolutely amazing, and like I mentioned, I picked this up in the shade Nutmeg 6W2 which is the second to darkest in the warm category. The brand used to boast of 15 hour wear but now they boast of 24 hour wear and this foundation definitely lives up to those claims. I haven’t worn it for that long; the longest I’ve worn it is about 12 hours and it stayed flawless throughout.

It doesn’t smudge or transfer so go ahead and hug bae while he’s wearing his white shirt. The white shirt ain’t got shxt on Estee Lauder Double Wear because once it sets, it SETS and it’s not going anywhere. It is of a thicker consistency but applies easily. I like to apply it with my Real Techniques expert face brush then go over it with my beauty blender to smooth it all out. It plays well with my current under eye concealers and I absolutely love the finish of it. It does transfer a little when I get oily but it’s so minimal that it’s not even a big deal.

It has hard core oil control. This is the only foundation that has me looking matte for 8+ hours before I see a little bit of shine peeking through. It is a full coverage foundation but not cakey at all, just try not to go overboard with the powder else you’re on your way to cake face city.

The biggest pet peeve for me and the millions of other people that use and love this foundation is the lack of a pump. For such a premium – looking foundation and for the price, it would have been nice if they threw in a pump but I’m careful to only pour out the tiniest bit because a little goes a long way.

Now let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the shade. The foundation is supposed to be warm shade but it gives off cool vibes to me

I am warm toned but I can make some orangey and red foundations work for me. I compared it to the coolest foundation I’ve ever used (which you should know if you’ve been kicking it with me for a while) is the Becca Ever Matte Shine Proof foundation

The Becca definitely leans cooler than the Estee Lauder. When I wear this foundation, I look casket sharp. The colour match is pretty accurate but lacks the warm yellow tones that I like in a foundation.

I took this picture with flash so you could tell the difference between the three foundations and you can see that the Makeup Forever Ultra HD which I reviewed recently is much warmer than the other two shades and it’s a much better match for me and the Becca Ever Matte is the coolest of the three. Sometimes to offset the coolness, I mix it with the Makeup Forever Ultra HD but the cool tones are so strong that my foundation just looks off.

I really like the finish and the oil control properties of the foundation but I definitely do not like the shade. However I’m definitely willing to give it another shot because I am so impressed by the foundation. I don’t know what I’m going to do with this one just yet but I’ll figure something out.

If you haven’t tried the Estee Lauder double wear, get you some sis, because this foundation is littttttt 🔥🔥🔥. And best of all it has 24 shelf life so you know this is going to last you a pretty long time.

Have you tried this foundation? Let me know your thoughts on it!

Buy Or Nah| NYX HD Photogenic Concealer Wand

Hi guys! I recently picked up a bunch of NYX products, and the NYX HD Photogenic concealer was one of them. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this concealer, including that it is a dupe for the cult favourite NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. Of course I haven’t tried the Radiant Creamy Concealer but I’ve always wanted to but see the way my bank account is set up… Lol well I got the more pocket friendly alternative. I really like the packaging. It’s minimalist, but still really catchy. The top closes very securely; it is travel friendly because you can throw it into your bag easily and not worry about it breaking or spilling.

According to the brand: Now comes in 12 more shades to accommodate an even wider range of skin tones, our best – selling HD Photogenic Concealer effectively covers imperfections, discoloration and under – eye circles without ever looking cakey or obvious. The result is beautiful, natural – looking coverage you can count on.

It comes in 23 shades, including a few colour – correcting shades, and I picked it up in the shade Nutmeg. It has a doe foot applicator which makes application pretty convenient, but also makes me wonder about cross contamination but I try not to think of that so much 😂😂

The shade Nutmeg is a pretty medium – dark with pinky undertones. The shade is about a shade or two lighter than my skin tone and I love that it is not too yellow, which is was one problem I had with the LA Girl pro concealer in the shade Fawn. I always thought it was too yellow and to combat the extreme yellow undertones, I mix it with another LA Girl concealer in Beautiful Bronze to tone it down a little because sometimes a yellow based foundation + a yellow based concealer + a yellow based setting powder = a hot mess. The shade is pretty close to the skin of my inner arm, which is lighter than my face, and I love how natural looking it is

The formula is lightweight and very creamy. It’s a medium coverage and you could probably build it up but I don’t need a lot of coverage under my eyes because I don’t have dark circles. I have a line under my right eye that it sinks but aside from that, there is no creasing whatsoever. It held up really well, lasting the whole working day and some, which of course is very impressive. It blends easily with both my fingers and a beauty blender but I prefer using my finger because it provides fuller coverage. Here I compared the NYX HD concealer to the two LA Girl concealers I use on the regular, and you can see how very yellow Fawn is compared to Nutmeg. Beautiful Bronze is my exact shade but has more neutral undertones so a mixture of the two (Fawn+Beautiful bronze) gives me a pretty, toned down highlight.

I set it with my Laura Mercier translucent powder and it stays put all day. The formula is hydrating for my under eye so there is no tightness like I get from the LA Girl concealers. And it doesn’t set too fast, giving enough time to make corrections.

My one gripe with this is that it contains so little product, only a measly 0.11oz/3g of product which I know will definitely run out soon with everyday use. Buy or nah? I say BUY! It’s amazing! If you’ve tried this concealer, let me know your thoughts.
