Issa Review! Makeup Revolution Fortune Favours the Brave palette | Hot or Not

You know how sometimes your focus changes and you’re into something totally different now than you were a few months ago? Or is it just me? Just me? Ok moving on 👀 so anyway lately I’ve been obsessed with eyeshadow palettes. I recently reviewed the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette and if you checked out my review, you know I absolutely love that palette. I was recently on the Makeup Revolution site and I noticed this palette and I knew I just had to have it and I copped it recently. Enter the Fortune Favours the Brave palette… 

The palette is a collaboration between Makeup Revolution and Jane aka British Beauty Blogger. The palette comes with thirty shades – yes, THIRTY – which guarantees the versatility of the palette. 

Thirty shades of matte, glimmer and sheen combine in one golden palette for an every which way smoky eye. From the brightening base colours to the darkest, most daring shades of navy, black and green and everything in between, Fortune is the most versatile, every – age, every – tone palette yet. 

The pans are pretty small but you get a whopping 30 shades so I don’t really mind so much. 

The packaging is a golden plastic case and you get a clear, full sized mirror and a dual ended brush, and just like with the Modern Renaissance palette, you get a blending brush on one end and a flat brush on the other, which I use to pack shadows onto my lid. 

The individual shades are named but the names are printed on the plastic wrap that covers the shadows themselves. Without that, it’s nearly impossible to tell which shade is which. 

Thrown into the assortment of mattes and shimmer shades are 5 marbled shadows that swatch and apply beautifully. The palette is a mix of neutral tones with some dark purples, blues and greens. The black shade, Blacqua, is an intensely pigmented true black shade. Apply with a heavy hand and risk raccoon eyes! 

Of course like in every palette, there are a few dud shades that I will probably never use but on the whole the palette is a very versatile one that can be used to create a wide variety of looks for various occasions. 

Let’s take a look at the shades in the palette now 

First row

Even the lightest shade in this row, glimmer is so pigmented that it shows up on my darker skin, and in my opinion if a very light shade shows up on my skin tone, that shows how pigmented it is.

Second row

I haven’t gotten much use out of the first two rows because I’ve mostly been using the palette for my day to day work eyeshadow and a lot of the shades are more daring. But can we talk about how gorgeous and intensely pigmented the shades are? These were swatched without a base and they still showed up without having to go in over and over. The shade Tip Top is one of those dud shades I mentioned. It’s quite patchy, doesn’t apply very well and I will probably never get any use out of it. Yes Please swatches more golden but is leans more green when applied. 

Third row

I could not get Latte and Creme to show up on me no matter how many times I swatched them so let’s add that to the list of dud shades that are of no use to me 😂 I do use Creme to set my primer from time to time. Caffeine Fix is a beautiful dark brown shade that I like to use as a transition.  

Last row

This row is one of, if not my favourite for creating everyday wearable looks. I like to pop Sunset Hour and Super Gold on my lid and brow bone. The two shades look similar but are very different when applied. I also really like the final three shades, Winning, Brave and The Revolution. I like to deepen my outer V with either of these shades (or all 3 when I want a bit of drama). Notice how the brand managed to incorporate its name and the name of the palette into the shade names? Smart huh? 

All of the shades last all day and some. I have experienced no fading whatsoever. My one gripe about this palette is the brush!  

The flat side is not half bad, but the blending brush is so scratchy and harsh against my eyes. There is some fall out to the marble shades I’ve tried, Skylight, Golden Coins and Super Gold. Lonely Planet which is also marbled doesn’t have as much fall out and I haven’t used the last marbled shade, New World at all. Sunset Hour also has some fall out, as do quite a bit of other shades but I guess that’s to be expected from a bit of eyeshadows. When using the shimmer shadows in this palette it’s best to do your eyes first before your foundation because it gets quite messy. But the shades are so pretty that I am so willing to overlook that. 

I can’t wait to create some more looks with this palette, which I will post on my Instagram for you to check out, the possibilities are simply endless! It’s love mehn. True love, this palette is definitely a winner in my book. I love it just as much or even more than my Modern Renaissance palette, especially since this is more pocket friendly at only £10. If you can get your hands on this palette, definitely pick it up, it is frickin amazing!
